Program Details for the Pilot Program Resiliency Leadership & Emotional Recovery for Crisis Response® (RLER)Coach Certification
In a world that demands resilience and adaptability, our programs offer a unique approach. We understand that building resilience is not just a skill but a necessity for first responders.
True resiliency in law enforcement is not delivered through one-time training—it is built by embedding professionally certified coaches within the department. The Elias Institute of Professional Coaching is an International Coach Federation (ICF)–approved training provider, delivering formal coach certification programs designed for high-stress, mission-critical environments.
This is a highly competitive pilot program offering a tremendous discount from the industry standard for formal coach certification. To ensure the best outcomes for participants, departments, and the communities they serve, we are committed to selecting only the most dedicated and motivated individuals — those who are determined to complete the program and eager to support their peers and department in building a resilient agency.
Take Your Time
Carefully and thoughtfully answer each question in the application. Your responses reflect your commitment and readiness for this program.
Apply Early
The selection process of the pilot program has a component that reviews the applications based on date of submission. Submitting your application in a timely fashion significantly improves your chances of being selected.
Show Your Dedication
We are looking for individuals who are not just interested, but genuinely committed to completing the program and championing resilience within their agency.
Let's be direct: this program is an 85hr intensive that is both academically rigorous and at time emotionally challenging. therefore it is important that the participants come to the program with an open mind, ready to learn and apply new concepts, and are able to manage the time commitment required for successful completion of the program and application within the workplace.
This certification is not for the "voluntold" — those who get assigned to a training - often unaware of what the process entails or even the program itself.
This is for officers, first responders, and leaders who recognize the gap in resilience training and want to close it. You're here because you've seen what prolonged crisis exposure does to your people — and you want real, evidence-based tools to make a difference. You're choosing to invest in yourself, your team, and your community.
All of our solutions take a nonclinical coaching approach — leadership and formal coaching techniques, not clinical therapy. This is about building resilience, fortitude, and forward-thinking vision.

Why a Coaching Approach Increases Training Utilization
In 2022, Walter Reed conducted a study identifying why their resiliency program wasn't yielding anticipated utilization, recommending a shift to a leadership & coaching approach to resolve the gap. Research identifies three key factors (Harvard, 2017):
1. Leadership Must Champion Implementation
More than buy-in — senior leaders must encourage and support ongoing implementation. We work directly with senior leadership to provide guidance and support to usher in change.
2. Training Must Be Relevant
Transfer of training is all about utilization. Training won't transfer unless relevant to day-to-day tasks. We provide specializations so you choose what's right for your professional development needs.
3. Formal Coaching Follow-Up
Trainees need a coach to assist in identifying implementation options, brainstorming obstacles, and designing actions with clear steps. Formal coaching is essential for transfer of training.
For organizations sending personnel to coach training, we suggest multiple participants attend to support transfer of training and foster a coaching culture.
